Dr. Burton M. Sundin’s Educational Background

Born in Virginia Beach, Dr. Sundin is a native of Virginia. He is a graduate of the Norfolk Academy and went on from there to attend Duke University. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Duke in 1993, receiving degrees in both biology and art history. He continued his education, becoming a triple graduate of Duke University before completing medical school at Duke University Medical Center in 1997 and his residency in Plastic Surgery at Duke in 2003.

Professional Excellence

Dr. Sundin is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, having trained in all forms of plastic surgery and having completed two advanced fellowships. He is a graduate of the world-renowned Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery, where he completed a dedicated hand surgery fellowship. 

He has also completed an advanced cosmetic surgery fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, under the guidance of one of the fathers of modern plastic and cosmetic surgery, Dr. Luis Vasconez. While at UAB, Dr. Sundin was given a faculty appointment as an Instructor. He is familiar with all of the latest techniques in cosmetic surgery and remains committed to naturalistic results that truly enhance his patients’ lives and appearances.
