Male Breast Reduction Show off a Toned, Masculine Chest

Male Breast Reduction is the surgical removal of enlarged male breasts through either tissue excision or liposuction. This plastic surgery procedure is ideal for men who suffer from gynecomastia and whose breasts are enlarged by excess fatty deposits and enlarged nipples.  In most cases, the patient can return to work and normal daily activities within one week of surgery, and the procedure is sometimes covered by insurance. To learn more about this procedure, reach out to our offices—conveniently serving the Richmond and Tysons Corner areas—and set up your consultation today.

Should I Consider Male Breast Reduction?

Male breasts can become enlarged for any number of reasons. In many cases, simple genetics can cause a man to have somewhat enlarged breasts due to an excess of tissue. In other cases, lifestyle choices can lead to the development of unwanted breast tissue. Whatever the cause of your issues may be, you’re likely to be a great candidate for this procedure if you find yourself uncomfortable with the presence of overly large breasts or nipples.

During your consultation for male breast reduction in Richmond at the Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Sundin will get to know your cosmetic concerns and aesthetic goals and will guide you to the treatment option that is right for you and your personal goals. We understand that each patient is different, and will work closely with you to develop a treatment plan that is customized to you and your unique needs.

Your Male Breast Reduction Experience

Since each patient is different, each male breast reduction procedure is customized to the specifics of the individual. After meeting you during your consultation and getting to know your physical characteristics, Dr. Sundin will explain the technique that he’ll be using to create your results.

Liposuction

Liposuction is a highly effective way to address excess fatty tissue that is causing the appearance of enlarged male breasts. Small incisions enable the insertion of a cannula, which is a small tube that uses vacuum suction to remove unwanted fatty tissue.

Tissue Excision

In some cases, manual excision may be required. This technique is typically chosen when excess breast tissue is present, and liposuction will not be sufficient to create the results that are desired by the patient.

Minimally-Invasive Technique

Thanks to our commitment to advanced technology, the Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery is able to offer a minimally invasive option. This technique utilizes an advanced form of liposuction to deliver impressive results with minimal scarring.

Your Rest and Recovery

Your recovery period will vary according to the specific technique that was used in your male breast reduction surgery. Before your procedure, you’ll be given a detailed timeline and thorough aftercare instructions, along with anything you might need to remain comfortable as you get ready to enjoy your exciting new results. We’ll also schedule follow-up appointments to ensure that you’re healing properly.

You will likely be outfitted with a compression garment to help keep the swelling under control as your chest heals, and you’ll need to avoid heavy lifting or strenuous activity for about six weeks. You can expect to return to work and other normal activities—except exercise and heavy lifting—after about two to three weeks of recovery, depending on the technique that was used in your surgery.

How Much Does Male Breast Reduction Cost?

Pricing is as follows:

  • Gynecomastia Excision: $8,000-$12,000
