IPL Photofacial Say Goodbye to Dull, Sun-Damaged Skin

Years of exposure to environmental elements can leave your skin looking dull, with areas of hyperpigmentation (dark spots) or a rough, dry, texture. Recent advancements in IPL (intense pulsed light) photofacial technology allow for an impressive level of rejuvenation without downtime or some of the other risks associated with more intense, deeper penetrating laser-based treatments. The IPL rejuvenation process is not only a breakthrough in skin care, but can also address a myriad of skin concerns and conditions without surgery or systemic medications. To learn more, reach out to our offices—located in Richmond, Northern Virginia, Charlottesville, and Washington DC—and set up your consultation to learn more about what intense pulsed light can do for you.

Am I the Ideal Candidate?

Intense pulsed light treats much more than just sun damage, making this an impressively versatile way to address a number of life’s most common skin-related concerns. In fact, there are various conditions and skin concerns that can also be addressed with IPL treatments, such as:

  • Acne scars
  • Wrinkles
  • Facial veins and capillaries
  • Beard bumps
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Rosacea
  • Acne
  • Age spots

Guiding You to the Right Treatment

There are a variety of options available for correcting skin concerns like fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, redness, and sun damage, but most of these are either highly invasive and/or require significant downtime. Some procedures require you to take time off work or other regular activities while you heal.

When you visit our practice, you’ll meet with Dr. Burton Sundin or Dr. Reps Sundin, who will learn about your cosmetic goals and help you explore the various treatment options we offer. We’ll guide you to the treatment option that is best suited to both your lifestyle and your personal cosmetic goals.

The Syneron Difference

While most IPL procedures essentially use the same technology, Syneron is different because of its exclusive Elos technology. Instead of simple laser energy, or intense pulsed light, the Syneron IPL model combines two technologies—bi-polar radio frequency (RF) and infrared light—that together improve your skin’s texture and overall appearance. The visible signs of aging and other skin concerns cannot be fully avoided, but with Syneron’s advanced dual-technology approach, they can be minimized.

Your IPL Experience

Your IPL photofacial experience will generally involve a 30-minute procedure in which the synergy of bipolar RF and light energies penetrate the top layers of your dermis through a handpiece placed on top of your skin. The visible light energy is absorbed by the pigment on your skin’s surface, while the RF energy stimulates the production of collagen at a deeper level.

The energy that stays on the top layer of your skin begins to gently decrease the visibility of blemishes or dark spots while the deeper energy produces significant collagen and elastin remodeling to smooth the skin from the inside.

Rest and Recovery After IPL Photofacial

You may experience a little discomfort at the time of your procedure and side effects are generally minimal (slight redness and swelling that disappears shortly after treatment are the most common).

Most patients apply make-up right after treatment and go right back to work or other daily activities. Depending on your specific concerns, three to five sessions are generally recommended for optimal results.

Individual results may vary, but patients may start to see the benefits of IPL photofacial gradually in the weeks following treatment. Before your treatment, we’ll give you a clear idea of what you can expect from your recovery period.
