Will liposuction help cellulite (cottage-cheese like dimpling) or sagging skin?

Will liposuction help cellulite (cottage-cheese like dimpling) or sagging skin?Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, is a popular surgical procedure for individuals seeking to enhance the contours of their body surgically.

In this procedure, the surgeon will suction out fat from treatment sites to contour the patient’s body into a desirable shape. Liposuction creates a sculpted and slimmer physique.

The Basics

Liposuction is also called “body sculpting,” and it is usually performed to remove stubborn fatty deposits in the neck, buttocks, thighs, abdomen, and other parts of the body.

This procedure can effectively remove fat pockets in the treated areas. But can it also address other body problems such as cellulite? This consideration is a valid one for patients seeking a reduction in cellulite.

The Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery, led by board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Burton M. Sundin and Dr. Reps B. Sundin provides liposuction body contouring to patients in Richmond, Fredericksburg, Tysons Corner, Northern Virginia, Washington DC, and surrounding locations.

What is Cellulite?

The development of cellulite does not occur due to any apparent or known cause, and it is also unrelated to body type or activity level.

This frustrating condition primarily affects women and leads to unappealing dimpling on the butt and thighs, which is sometimes even seen through certain clothing. Women who are self-conscious of their cellulite may feel uncomfortable wearing clothing such as a swimsuit or shorts.

Can Liposuction eliminate Cellulite?

Cellulite leads to dimpling on the butt and other areas of the body causing an unattractive appearance. Women typically experience cellulite in the thigh and buttock areas. This condition occurs when fat pockets are pushed up on the causing a rippled appearance.

An experienced plastic surgeon can certainly understand a patient’s concerns regarding her cellulite. However, they cannot recommend liposuction as an appropriate procedure to get rid of this condition. Liposuction can effectively eliminate fat deposits from specific areas. But it cannot address cellulite.

It is important to understand to understand the reasons for cellulite development before seeking treatment for its removal. When the bands of connective tissue develop beneath the skin pulling it downwards, it creates a dimpling effect known as cellulite.

The presence of excess fat can worsen the appearance of cellulite. But it is not a cause for its development. Due to this reason, liposuction on the thighs and buttocks can only make a slight corrective impact on the appearance of cellulite.

The skin on the buttocks and thighs is thinner, which makes cellulite more visible in these areas. Older women tend to have more visible cellulite as their skin is often less elastic.

Ultrasound and laser-assisted liposuction may tighten the skin during fat elimination, but these treatments alone are not adequate to remove cellulite.

How can I Get Rid of Cellulite?

Liposuction plastic surgery removes stubborn fat pockets. However, it is not designed to remove cellulite. There are no official treatments to remove cellulite, but some things may help improve its appearance. Weight-loss and exercise may help reduce cellulite.

Cellulite may be aesthetically unappealing, but it is a normal condition for most women. In fact, a majority of women have some amount of cellulite on their bodies.
