What is Neck Liposuction?

Defining Neck Liposuction | Washington DC | Arlington | MarylandNeck Liposuction

Neck liposuction cosmetic surgery can help reduce the appearance of fat pockets in the neck region and under the chin.

Stubborn fat deposits in the neck compromise the youthful contours of the jaw. Diet and exercise alone may sometimes not be enough to remove these fatty deposits. For such people, neck liposuction may be an excellent solution.

Initially, the surgeon will assess the patient’s medical condition, neck and face structure, and understand their aesthetic goals prior to recommending neck lipo surgery. Neck liposuction involves the surgical sculpting of the neck region and removal of excess fat deposits to restore an angular chin and jaw shape.

Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery, led by board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Burton M. Sundin and Dr. Reps B. Sundin, provides neck liposuction to patients in Richmond, Fredericksburg, Tysons Corner, Northern Virginia, Washington DC, and other suburbs and neighborhoods in this area of the nation.

Ideal Candidates

Ideal neck liposuction candidates are at a healthy weight but have stubborn fat pockets in the neck area. The patient may consider neck lipo if these deposits are unresponsive to diet and exercise. To achieve optimal outcomes with neck liposuction, the patient should have reasonable skin elasticity and firmness in the neck area.

Good candidates will be healthy and have reasonable expectations for neck liposuction outcomes. While age is not a determining factor for this surgery, older patients may have less elastic skin. This may lead to less effective outcomes in older individuals in comparison to younger patients.

In most cases, neck liposuction plastic surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis. For the removal of small amounts of fat, the procedure may be performed using a local anesthetic.

But the surgeon may choose to perform the procedure under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation, according to the patient’s requirements. A more extensive surgery may warrant the use of general anesthesia.

The surgeon begins the procedure by placing small incisions in pre-determined sites in the neck. They use these incisions to remove localized fat pockets.

The surgeon will then insert a narrow tube or cannula via the incision to suction out the layer of stubborn fat deep within the tissue. The cannula extracts disintegrated fat cells. Upon removal of the desired quantity of fat, the surgeon re-contours the neck and chin. Then they seal the incisions with sutures.

Neck lipo recovery usually takes between five to seven days. The surgeon may place a narrow drainage pipe beneath the skin to prevent fluid accumulation for the initial one or two days.

In addition, the patient will have to wear a surgical garment around the treated site for a few weeks to promote healing and support the new chin shape. The surgeon may prescribe antibiotics for some days to mitigate infection risks that are commonly associated with any surgical procedure.

There will be a noticeable difference in the neck contour as well as the shape of the neck and chin shortly after the procedure. The outcomes will become more visible when the inflammation subsides within four to six weeks.

The entire inflammation may resolve between three to six months following the neck liposuction. At this point, the final neck definition will be apparent. The patient should follow a healthy diet and exercise regimen to maintain the surgical outcomes.

Fat transfer is a method of adding needed facial volume to hollow or gaunt areas of the face, evening them out and correcting proportions. Age can reduce facial volume, making this a sorely needed procedure.

Fat transfer is unlike any other injectable facial volume restoration procedure in that it has the added bonus of improving the patient’s figure. If a patient is embarrassed by excess fatty tissue around their buttocks, stomach, or thighs, liposuction will be used to remove and harvest this tissue. These fat cells will be used to volumize the patient’s features.

If this sounds like the perfect solution for your situation, contact our office and arrange an appointment. Well-respected, board-certified plastic surgeons Doctors Burton Sundin and Reps Sundin will meet with you and create a plan for your fat transfer procedure. Call or email today.

Watch Dr. Reps Sundin receive non-invasive fat reduction with the two most popular FDA cleared devices; Liposonix and Coolsculpting. These procedures are performed in the office without the need for anesthesia or incisions, unlike liposucton. Patients can return to work the following day and do not need to wear compression garments. Both these devices actually permanently remove fat cells. Coolsculpting by Zeltiq accomplishes this by a process call cryolipolysis, which basically means freezing the cells. Fat Cells are more sensitive to freezing than the surrounding skin cells, so by reducing their temperature to one where they are damaged but leaves the skin cells undamaged coolsculpting can produce permanant fat cell destruction. This process is performed without the need for pain medication, in the office, without incisions or downtime. Liposonix utilizes a focused beam of ultrasonic energy to explode the fat cell and cause its destruction this way. Since ultrasound is focused below the skin to allow it to remove the fat cell without hurting the skin or adjacent structures. This once again results in reduction in fat cells and improved body contour without the need for surgery or downtime that one has while undergoing liposuction.. The Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery is located in Richmond Virginia, where we perform the full range of both platic surgery and non invasive cosmetic treatments. Come in for a free consult and either Dr. Burton or Reps Sundin will discuss all your options with you from coosculpting, trusculpt, liposonix, liposuction or mommy makeover or tummy tuck surgery.

Dr. Sundin Personally Receiving Coolsculpting and Liposonix Treatment

If you are looking to slim down in the new year , Coolsculpting is a great nonsurgical option. Coolsculpting uses cold temperature to permanently destroy unwanted fat cells in treated areas.  Coolsculpting is excellent to rid yourself of bulges in areas that are resistant to diet and exercise. The device is FDA approved for non-invasive fat reduction.  Coolsculpting has been featured on Dr Oz, The Doctors, and Rachel Ray as well as in The Wall Street Journal, Town and Country, New Beauty, W, Allure, and Elle

Each treatment results in a 20% reduction at the treatment site. Mulptiple treatments are additive and result in increased fat reduction. The cells are destroyed, therefore the effect is permanent. There is no down time and no anesthesia or incision is necessary. You can have the procedure performed on your lunch hour.
