Breast Lift Surgery With Implants

Recovery From Breast Lift Surgery With ImplantsWith a combined breast lift cosmetic surgery with implants, you can expect to achieve fuller, firmer, and more youthful looking breasts. To ensure safe and desirable outcomes, you should be committed to following the post-surgical recovery guidelines of your surgeon. During your initial consultation, the surgeon will discuss the expected recovery process with you.

Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery, led by board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Burton M. Sundin and Dr. Reps B. Sundin, provides breast lift with implants surgery to patients in Richmond, Fredericksburg, Northern Virginia, and surrounding locations.

Post-operative Recovery

Immediately after your breast implants with lift plastic surgery, as the effects of your general anesthesia subside, you will be moved to a recovery area where your progress will be monitored. Once you have recovered sufficiently, you can expect to return home the same day, accompanied by a responsible adult.

You may feel some pain and soreness in the incision sites for about three days to a week. Your surgeon will prescribe pain meds to keep you comfortable. The breasts will appear swollen and show some bruising in the first one to two weeks. While the bruising will resolve quickly, the swelling will gradually dissipate over several weeks or months.

You should perform short walks at home as well as light activities after the first two or three days in order to improve blood circulation in the incision sites. But avoid any vigorous activities or exercises, and do not bend or sleep on your abdomen for the first few weeks.

You can return to your normal routine in 10 to 14 days, and also go back to your workplace as long as you do not perform strenuous physical activities. After about four to six weeks from your surgery, you may be fit enough to resume your exercise regimen. Discuss with your surgeon before you go back to your regular fitness and exercise routine.

Your surgeon will inform you that the breasts shape may appear slightly unnatural in the initial days. Full results will establish over three to six months as the swelling completed resolves. As the breast tissue firms up fully, you will gradually notice more natural and younger looking breast size and shape.

Guidelines for Aftercare

It is a judicious idea to sleep propped up by a few pillows in order to mitigate the swelling faster. Take care to sleep on your back instead of the sides or abdomen for the first few weeks.   Your surgeon will require you to wear a special surgical bra once the bandages are removed. You should wear it at all times except when bathing for a few weeks after your surgery.   In the first three days, try to keep your incision areas dry while showering. Talk to your surgeon about this in advance.  Protect your scars from direct sun exposure for at least the first six to 12 months.

Your breasts are likely to be sensitive to touch for the first few weeks. The sensation around the nipples may be altered or you have temporary numbness. These are normal signs, and will resolve on their own.
