Neck Lift
Neck lift is considered to be among the less invasive plastic surgery procedures, but it will still have a considerable recovery component.
The patient should be committed to following the post-surgical care instructions of the surgeon in order to have a safe and predictable recovery. During the initial consultation, the surgeon will provide the care instructions and discuss all aspects of recovery.
The Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery, led by board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Burton Sundin and Dr. Reps Sundin, provides neck lift and various other procedures of the breast, body and face. Patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredericksburg, and surrounding locations have an opportunity to receive neck lift at the practice.
Estimated Downtime
Neck lift surgery will usually involve a post-surgical downtime of about one week. The procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis, and the patient should have someone to drive them home after the surgery.
Working people should apply for a week’s leave in advance in order to ensure a stress-free recovery period at home. In the first three to four days, the patient may use prescription pain meds to get relief from initial pain and soreness in the incision sites.
Maintaining Blood Flow
Patients are encouraged to perform short walks at home and perform light activities from the second day of the surgery. This will help to maintain blood flow in the incision areas. Comfortable clothes with buttons in the front should be worn in the first few days. Vigorous exercises and lifting of heavy weights should be avoided for several weeks, but normal routine activities can be resumed in a week’s time.
Protecting against Infection
The patient should protect exposure of the incision sites with any type of contamination until the healing improves. For the first few days, the patient should avoid submerging the incision areas in water. The surgeon will guide the patient to stay alert for any warning signs of infection, which may include acute and persistent pain, appearance of pus in the incision sites, abnormal swelling that does not go down, and high fever.
Common Side Effects
Mild pain, bruising, and swelling in the incision sites are common temporary side effects associated with neck lift surgery. Some degree of scarring is inevitable, but the scars will gradually fade off and look like thin, white lines. A skillful surgeon will create the incisions in discreet locations such as the natural neck creases to ensure faster healing and minimal visible scarring.
The Virginia Institute receives patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredericksburg, and other cities and communities in this part of the country.
Results
Improvement in the neck shape can be noticed immediately after the surgery. Over the next few months, as swelling resolves completely, the patient will be able to see full results. A neck lift is often performed along with facelift for more comprehensive results. The patient will be able to enjoy firmer and tighter neck and a more defined jaw line for the next several years.
