Restore Your Confidence…Inside And Out!*

Perfect, satisfactory results cannot be guaranteed in any type of surgical procedure. Whether dissatisfaction comes immediately after your breast augmentation surgery or after some time, the results can be devastating both physically and mentally. No one goes into surgery expecting unsatisfactory results, but unfortunately, it does happen. Breast revision techniques can be employed to correct issues with previously placed implants to help you achieve your desired results.*

Breast revision is a highly specialized surgical procedure that requires both experienced and artistic hands in order to produce optimal results. Dr. Reps Sundin and Dr. Burton Sundin are Board Certified Plastic Surgeons who have a highly individualized take to performing breast revision surgery. Since no two patients have the same reasoning for wanting a revisionary procedure, Drs. Sundin offer a thorough consultation process. At Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery in the Richmond and Tysons Corner area, our goal is to listen to your concerns and create a plan that best addresses your needs. We know that this can be a difficult situation, but you can be sure that restoring your confidence in your appearance is our priority.*

Reasons To Consider Breast Revision

*Patients become unhappy with their previous breast augmentation procedure for a number of reasons. Proper correction of a previous surgery relies on identifying which of the following situations apply:

Dissatisfaction With Size

Patients can be unhappy with the size of their implants at any point in the post-surgical time period. Whether implants are too big, too small, too wide, or too narrow, we can find an implant size and shape that best fits your anatomy and aesthetic goals.

Capsular Contracture

Capsular contracture involves the development of scar tissue in the breast pocket around the implant which can be painful and distort the appearance of the breast. Surgical techniques can be used to remove or release the scar tissue and restore its more natural appearance.

Though it is not a common occurrence, the breast implant shell can rupture. In saline implants, there is a very evident loss of volume in the breast. With silicone implants, a rupture is not as obvious and may require imaging to be identified. In either case, replacement of the ruptured implant(s) can be done to rectify the problem.

Misplaced Implants

The pocket that is made for the implants can be made too high or too low which lead to an unnatural appearance to the breasts. Breast pockets can also be made too far apart, not allowing for enough cleavage. Adjusting the pocket in these cases can often correct the issue.

Ripples are visible wrinkles that can be seen in the implant through the skin. This can occur with patients who are slender or have thin breast tissue. We offer a variety of breast implant options that can help improve or eliminate rippling.

Changes over time

Time is one of those things none of us can escape. How the passing of time will affect your breast augmentation depends on many factors, but if you become dissatisfied with the appearance, position, or shape of your breasts, there are steps we can take to make the modifications you need to fit your new desires.

The extent of your breast revision surgery will depend on your specific situation. Procedures are performed under general anesthesia and your recovery process will be similar to that of your initial surgery. Drains may or may not be utilized to aid in the healing process. From simple implant exchange to more complex pocket or lift procedures, Drs. Sundin and their professional staff will offer you exceptional care every step of the way.*
