Sculpted, Toned, Beautiful Legs are Possible with Powerful Thigh Lift Surgery!*
Thigh lift surgery (also known as thigh contouring or thighplasty) is a body contouring procedure designed to correct the loss of skin elasticity in the inner and outer thighs in order to enhance the look of smooth, sculpted legs. Unfortunately, the natural elasticity of our skin declines over time, usually because of age, gravity, lifestyle habits, and/or significant weight loss. As the elasticity of the skin declines, thighs that were formerly firm and toned begin to sag and even appear dimpled or flabby. Thigh lift surgery delivers sculpted and taut inner and outer thighs, restoring a youthfully lifted shape and smooth, toned leg contours.*
Thighplasty is a powerful surgical tool for any patient who is at or near their ideal weight but who has been unable to improve the appearance of their thighs through exercise alone. Yet this procedure is especially beneficial for patients who have lost a significant amount of weight, but who are left with large amounts of excess, hanging skin in the thigh area. By safely and effectively excising the stretched-out skin in the thigh area, thighplasty can serve as the final step in a patient’s transformative weight loss journey, allowing them to see the true results of their hard-fought weight loss battle.*
At the Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery, with offices in Richmond, Virginia and Vienna, Virginia, we understand the frustration that comes from being unable to achieve the body shape you want despite your best efforts to stay active, fit, and healthy. Board Certified plastic surgeons Dr. Reps Sundin and Dr. Burton Sundin offer a range of powerful surgical solutions—such as the thigh lift—designed to restore and enhance your youthful, sexy curves. These experienced, caring surgeons utilize only the most up-to-date, advanced surgical techniques in order to minimize the risk of complications and unintended side effects, while taking the time to custom-tailor each procedure to match your unique aesthetic goals.*
Your Thighplasty Procedure and Recovery
*A typical thighplasty (thigh lift) lasts about two hours, and is usually performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia or IV sedation. While a traditional thigh lift involves primarily removing and tightening excess skin, some patients may also require an ancillary liposuction procedure to remove large amounts of excess fatty tissue. Your specific thigh lift may be performed using one or more of these specialized techniques, depending on the extent of reshaping required:
- Medial Thigh Lift: an incision in the groin area running to the back of the buttock crease enables the surgeon to tighten skin and remove fat from the upper area of the inner thigh*
- Inner Thigh Lift: an incision at the junction of the pubic area and upper thigh allows tightening and contouring of the inner thigh area*
- Bilateral Thigh Lift: this more extensive involves an incision beginning at the top of the leg (approximately where the bottom edge of bikini underwear would fall), enabling the surgeon to tighten the skin along the left and right side of the leg*
Most patients require a minimum of 1-2 weeks of downtime after thigh lift surgery, avoiding leg movement as much as possible during this time to facilitate the healing process. Post-operative swelling and bruising can take up to 4-6 weeks to completely subside, while the gradual return to all normal activities can take up to 4-6 months.*
