Top Plastic Surgery Procedures

Top Plastic Surgery Procedures for Women and MenUntil a few decades ago, plastic surgery procedures were presumed to be the exclusive domain of celebrities and film personalities. However, advancements in surgical techniques and technology made these procedures safer, more accessible and more affordable. Millions of Americans now enjoy the benefits of cosmetic invasive and non-invasive procedures every year.

Although many of these procedures are still sought after only women, but men are now increasingly becoming conscious about enhancing their physical appearance and are choosing cosmetic treatments.

The Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery, led by board certified and prolific plastic surgeons Dr. Burton Sundin and Dr. Reps Sundin, provides cutting edge cosmetic and reconstructive procedures to patients in Richmond, Virginia, and surrounding communities.

Wide Acceptability

Patient feedback for most of the plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures is highly positive, which encourages many more people to consider these treatments to improve their body image and self-esteem.

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) has revealed in its latest multi-specialty statistical report that Americans spent over $15 billion on invasive and non-invasive cosmetic procedures in 2016. This represents a jump of 11 percent over 2015.

Nearly 56 percent of these procedures were related to plastic surgery, while 44 percent were non-surgical procedures. The figure of $15 billion is the biggest amount spent on these treatments in a year ever since ASAPS instituted its annual Cosmetic Surgery National Data Bank Statistics survey nearly two decades ago.

According to ASAPS, the aesthetic aspirations of Americans are undergoing a rapid change, and more people now want to choose subtle and refined cosmetic treatments. For instance, many women now prefer to undergo fat transfer breast enhancement procedure in place of traditional breast implants to make the results appear less obvious. Similarly, the popularity of breast lift is on the rise because the procedure is more subtle than breast implants.

But this trend does not reflect on the popularity of breast augmentation surgery. In absolute terms, more women still prefer breast implant surgery, and it continues to rank as the second most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the US after liposuction.

Surgeries once considered niche, such as vaginal rejuvenation, are now becoming mainstream. Men’s procedures, ranging from double chin reduction to dermal fillers, are also gaining popularity.

Five Most In-Demand Procedures

The five most sought-after procedures in 2016, according to the ASAPS data, for both women and men combined, include:

Liposuction – 414,335 procedures Breast Augmentation – 310,444 procedures Tummy Tuck – 181,540 procedures Eyelid Surgery – 173,883 procedures Breast Lift – 161,412 procedures

Liposuction

Liposuction currently ranks as the number one cosmetic surgery procedure. It is designed to reduce targeted fat pockets in the upper and lower body.

Breast Augmentation

Both traditional breast implant surgery and fat transfer breast augmentation continue to gain in popularity among American women.

Tummy Tuck

Not just women, but now men too want to choose tummy tuck or abdominoplasty to attain a flatter and firmer abdomen.

Eyelid Surgery

Upper and lower eyelid surgery can significantly enhance the appearance of the eyes and upper face.

Breast Lift

Breast lift is designed to firm up sagging breasts and raise the position of downward pointing nipples.
