Burton M. Sundin, MD

Born in Virginia Beach, Dr. Sundin is a native of Virginia. He specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, wound care and healing, and hand surgery. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Burton Sundin graduated valedictorian from Norfolk Academy before attending Duke University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a dual degree in Biology and Art History. He completed medical school at Duke University Medical Center in 1997 and his residency in Plastic Surgery at Duke in 2003.

Dr. Sundin has extensive formal training in all forms of plastic surgery and has completed two advanced fellowships. He is a graduate of the world-renowned Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery where he completed a dedicated hand surgery fellowship.

He also completed an advanced cosmetic surgery fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham under the guidance of one of the fathers of modern plastic and cosmetic surgery, Dr. Luis Vasconez. While at UAB, Dr. Sundin also held a faculty appointment as an Instructor.

Dr. Burton Sundin is currently a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Virginia Medical Society, and the Richmond Academy of Medicine, as well as a candidate member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. In addition to offering an extensive range of surgical and non-surgical services as his private surgical practice (the Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery), Dr. Burton Sundin performs plastic surgery at the Retreat Hospital-Wound Healing Center, as well as provides expert medical opinion and advice during legal proceedings.

Reps B. Sundin, MD

Dr. Reps Sundin is a highly trained plastic and reconstructive surgeon. As one of the few plastic surgeons with formal fellowship training in cosmetic surgery, he specializes in all forms of aesthetic surgery, including facial rejuvenation, rhinoplasty, body contouring, and breast surgery. Dr. Reps Sundin is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

A native of Virginia, Dr. Sundin was raised in Virginia Beach. He attended Norfolk Academy, where he graduated with honors. He attended Georgetown University where he was elected into the honor society, Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Biology. While at Georgetown, he conducted several years of cellular research focusing on breast cancer at the Lombardi Cancer Center.

He then went on to receive an academic scholarship to attend medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, which is consistently ranked as one of the top hospitals in the country, followed by general surgical training at the University of Kentucky, where he obtained the highest score in his class on the General Surgery Inservice examination. His training continued at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he was one of the few residents in the country to be selected to pursue an integrated plastic and reconstructive surgery residency. After residency, Dr. Reps Sundin was selected as an Aesthetic Surgery Fellow at the prestigious Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in association with the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at New York University Medical Center. During this additional year of dedicated cosmetic surgery training, Dr. Sundin operated with some of the most renowned experts in the world of aesthetic surgery of the face, nose, and breast, including Dr. Sherrell Aston, Dr. Alan Matarasso, Dr. Jennifer Walden, Dr. Nicolas Tabbal, Dr. Gerald Pittman, and many others.

During his fellowship, Dr. Reps Sundin had independent operating privileges and ran his own cosmetic clinic, while participating in the education and supervision of NYU plastic surgery residents. Dr. Reps Sundin also has humanitarian interests and has participated in multiple volunteer missions. He spent a month at the Albert Schweizer Hospital in Haiti prior to medical school. During his last year of residency, he participated in a plastic surgery mission trip to the Dominican Republic with Medical Aid for Children of Latin America. He plans to continue future involvement in volunteer work abroad.
