CoolSculpting Elite Freeze Away Unwanted Fat

If you already have a healthy lifestyle with a (mostly) good diet and a (mostly) regular exercise routine, you may have already discovered an unwelcome fact about the human body: It accumulates and stores excess fatty deposits that can be nearly impossible to reduce through diet and exercise alone.

If you are frustrated by stubborn bulges, misshapen contours, and “problem areas” that just refuse to go away, CoolSculpting offers a revolutionary new way to achieve a stunning, shapely physique. Our offices provide CoolSculpting in the Richmond, Northern Virginia, Tyson's Corner, Charlottesville, and Washington DC areas. Set up your consultation when you’re ready to learn more.

What Areas Can Be Addressed With CoolSculpting?

Dr. Sundin may recommend CoolSculpting as an alternative to surgery when you only have a  few areas with stubborn fat. CoolSculpting is not a skin tightening or weight loss procedure, but it is ideal for men and women who are at a healthy weight and are interested in reshaping and contouring certain parts of the body. We also have an applicator that can treat smaller areas. We can treat many common problem areas, including:

  • Thighs
  • Abdomen
  • Love Handles
  • Flanks
  • Back Fat
  • Bra Fat
  • Banana Rolls
  • Neck
  • Arms

Am I the Ideal Candidate for CoolSculpting?

Developed by Harvard scientists as a non-invasive, next-generation fat reduction treatment, CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved, scalpel-free alternative to liposuction. Through its revolutionary use of freezing technology, CoolSculpting offers a safer, more comfortable treatment approach than heat-based body contouring procedures. At the Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery, board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Reps Sundin and Dr. Burton Sundin offer this cutting-edge technology as an ideal treatment for individuals who are seeking to reduce excess fatty deposits around the abdomen, waist, and buttocks—especially those so-called “love handles” and “muffin tops.” As one of the first practices to introduce the new CoolSmooth™ Applicator, Drs. Sundin can now safely and effectively target the saddle-bag areas of the outer thighs as well.

The CoolSculpting Technology

CoolSculpting is the only body contouring technology that uses the power of cold to naturally reduce the presence of unwanted fat cells. Utilizing an innovative process known as cryolipolysis, CoolSculpting literally freezes and breaks down the fat cells responsible for those persistent and unsightly fatty deposits.

Once these unwanted fat cells have been frozen, your body’s natural metabolic process gently and safely eliminates them. Your post-treatment recovery period will be incredibly limited, meaning you can enjoy impressive results without having to take any time away from your busy day-to-day schedule.

Your CoolSculpting Experience

At the Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery, your CoolSculpting treatment will be custom-tailored to precisely target your problem areas. The session should require no more than one hour and does not require any anesthesia or topical ointments. You’ll be kept very comfortable, and many patients find the session quite relaxing as they read, listen to music, or watch a movie. During your personalized treatment, our trained staff will apply a gel pad and applicator cup to the designated treatment area(s), utilizing a gentle vacuum suction to bring the unwanted fatty tissue between two cooling panels. It’s as simple as that!

Rest and Recovery After CoolSculpting

Beyond feeling a bit of tenderness in the treatment area, you won’t have much downtime to speak of. You’ll be able to return to your regular daily activities just about as soon as your treatment is over. Because CoolSculpting works by reducing fat cells over time, results will become visible within three weeks.

After about two to four months, you’ll start to notice your complete results taking shape. Individual results may vary, but most patients are able to achieve up to 20% fat reduction with CoolSculpting. Keep in mind that to maintain your shapely, contoured physique, it is critical to follow a healthy diet and exercise regimen after your treatment.

Paradoxical Hyperplasia Treatment for CoolSculpting Patients

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive fat reduction procedure and has become popular among patients who don’t want to undergo liposuction to remove fat in smaller problem areas. A rare condition called paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH) after CoolSculpting can occur in some patients. When this happens, the treatment area increases in size because of the development of a large, painless mass of tissue.

Fortunately, this can be easily treated with surgery. Our board-certified (ABPS) surgeons are trained to perform liposuction for PAH to remove the mass and achieve the result the patient was striving for. In many cases, CoolSculpting will cover the cost of liposuction for the treatment of PAH.

What Causes paradoxical adipose hyperplasia?

The cause of this condition is still unknown and experts suggest that cryolipolysis triggers the formation of excess tissue in response to treatment. Many patients with PAH that gain some weight after CoolSculpting report exaggerated fat growth in the treated area, compared to other parts of the body.

Why Choose paradoxical adipose hyperplasia treatment at VIPS?

  • We have over 14 years experience with coolsculpting and treating paradoxical hyperplasia
  • We are experts in advanced liposuction techniques and body contouring
  • We have treated numerous patients successfully for this condition
  • Can facilitate reimbursement through coolsculpting insurance company

Signs of Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia

While this condition isn’t painful, patients who develop PAH typically want to have the growth removed and achieve the result they were looking for with CoolSculpting. Common signs and symptoms include:

  • Fat that isn’t distributed evenly in the treated area
  • Firm knots or nodules forming under the skin
  • Deformities developing within the tissue
